Mass deforestation of the world's Tropical Rain Forests is not acceptable nor sustainable.
Whilst we fully endorse FSC managed forests there are serious questions to specifically ask about the management of rainforests...
Are we felling too many mature tropical trees to ensure a plentiful and uninterrupted supply for years to come ?
FACT: It can take between 100 - 200 years for a tropical hardwood tree to reach commercial maturity !!
What is being done to preserve the habitat of flora and fauna of tropical rainforests ??
FACT: As an example.....in Indonesia (no where else in the world !!) there are only 2 species of Orang Utan and the unique Sumatran Tiger....
These, along with many other species of fauna and flora, are now seriously endangered to the verge of extinction as a direct result of exploitation of rainforests !!
As an example of our greed for luxurious hardwood, Sumatra was once forested with over 60,000 square miles of lush lowland rainforest. Now, torn down by logging and ripped up for plantations, less than 5% remains - this is a staggering fact!
Please do not allow this to continue - it's not too late!
The demand for tropical hardwood creates the market for this level of deforestation !!
